The Parthenon and the History of Athens
The 450 BC is a really important period of time in Athenian history. The Persian wars were a seminal moment in defining Athenian identity and also changing the course of Athens' history. A politician comes along called Pericles who becomes very very successful in Athens. He has this great idea of moving the treasury which amounts to about 5,000 talents. This money would then pay for an assault on Persia. If you want to leave the league you will wake up one morning and find your city or island surrounded with Athenian ships and spears pointed at you.
