The Importance of Controlling Blood Sugar Long Term
If the patient looks well, their vital signs are fine and they don't have any significant concerning symptoms, I search for a reason for their elevated sugar. What I definitely don't do is give them a slug of insulin before discharged to make the numbers look better. Their glucose is probably going to bounce back in an hour or two anyway, so you're really just treating yourself and not the patient. Bottom line here once again is that just fixing the glucose number doesn't help the patient.
