The Evolution of Race and Gender
In the US, gender and race are seen as natural categories. But that's simply not the case in other parts of the world,. For example, our indigenous communities have their genders. You have all sorts of variation that exist around the world. And so for a long time in the US, the system was very mobilized to portray both race and gender in these naturalized sorts of ways. That's begun to shift dramatically.
