St. Thomas's Philosophy of Truths
There's a kind of rational insight that makes us say the event must have a cause. It is impossible to desire something without knowing it, at least in some way. In order for a person to be morally responsible for an act, he or she must be free in enacting it. We call them first principles, per se nota truths; those are St. Thomas's own ways of describing them. Call them synthetic a priori propositions if you want to use Kant's language.
