Pope Francis's Remarks on the Ukraine War
Francis Derni: The Catholic Church will be very sensitive to this issue and charges of perhaps getting the Ukraine war wrong. Pius Wars is a hotly contested debate around Pope Pius the 12th's role in not doing enough, as some critics have said. There are those who point towards the rat lines, which were essentially means for senior Nazi officials to be smuggled out of Nazi Germany before the end of the war. So there's that side of view. And then the other side of the view is actually that much more was done than has been widely recognised with lots of private backstage conversations taking place between the Vatican and the Nazi state.
