Is There a Workaround for a Defective Product?

Apple has a production line of these things, and they're coming off the production line. This is a case where they don't have those secret stash of ones to send out as a replacement for something that's bad. There are some posts in various forums about issues that don't seem to be the same issues i saw. Andi: They should have been clearer with me on the phone. The retail people were very helpful, but did not feel empowered to do anything short of just a return and replace.
