The Triumph of One Paradigm Over Another
Coon: The triumph of one paradigm over another is usually not a clear matter or at least not an obvious empirical one. He says scientists diverge as they try to wrangle these new anomalies in with the theory, very often violating some or many key assumptions that were previously held to be dogma within the theory. If the new theory can be successfully pushed to encompass enough of what had been known beforehand, it may triumph over its predecessor wholesale. But if it doesn't, there may be an interim period where you have multiple theories competing until one gains enough ground and becomes the new way of looking at the world.
