Swan: If art is bad, then how can it do this good thing of moving people into bravery? Swan: There's some nuance there in Father Price's commentary. He says the council understood image veneration to mean a whole wide range of things. Swan: Even if there were believing a source that said image veneration went directly back to the apostles, I don't think that means the council necessarily read eighth century image veneration into image veneration more broadly.
