The Japanese Plan to Stop the Invasion

The Japanese plan was to stop the Americans' landing rather than attack them once they've landed. They had hopes that their fleet would be able to hit the invasion force before it got ashore. This plan needed a high degree of coordination, which was not possible at this point in the war. The stated objective of what the Japanese call this plan was the showgo or victory operation. From the very start, this plan had no prospects of success.
