The word beef comes from was very similar to the French word buff and how actually we have a word which is B-U-F-F. And this is a way of describing someone who's attractive and muscular. So if two people have beef with one another, then perhaps the origin is this idea of two muscular people coming together and having a fight,. I don't know. But you must understand that I am simply speculating. This is just something that's come to my mind, how these words are very similar and how they could potentially be related.
