The Russian Economy Is First and Foremost Based on a Hard Hydrocarbon Model

There has been a good deal of speculation in the western media about the impact of melting perma, particularly on that enormous band that makes up some 70 % of russian territory. The eastern two thirds of russia are losing population rather than gaining population. And labor is very short, so there would have to be massive inmigration from other places. It's no at all obvious where that would come from. Russia is first and foremost based on a hydrocarbon model. If that hard hydrocarbon model comes under question, it's the entire basis for the russian economy and Russian society that really comes into question.
