The Concept of Holarchy

A holarchy is a hierarchy of self regulating holons that function first as autonomous wholes in superordination with their parts, secondly as dependent parts in subordination to controls on higher levels, and thirdly, in co ordination with their local environments. So the difference between a hierarchy and a holarchy is that a hierarchy is a more simple concept, which includes a fixed bottom and a fixed top,. A holarchy is infinite.
