In an assembly space, you can't observe the entire assembly space in any instant in time. But there was something that would be different in their future. And there was a symmetry breaking you observed in the present based on that possibility,. That future outcome could say that that system had some representation of some kind of goal in mind about what it wanted to do in the future. The only thing that you actually change your decision based on is what you model as being the future outcome.
