Are We Putting More and More Effort Into AGI?

In an interview with Marvin Minsky he said that in his experience more people worked on AGI when he was actually actively working in the field back in the day then there are today. So do you think we putting more and more effort now into general AI or is it still all narrow AI? I'm so much closer to the moon than I was when I started a few years ago because this is a 300 foot tall tree.
