The White House hosted a virtual briefing for Democrats to explain what's in the deal. A vote to raise the debt limit does not authorize additional government spending. It merely permits the Treasury to meet obligations that were already approved by Congress, some of them even decades ago. The clock is ticking on June 5th before the US government runs out of money.
