The Impact of a Social Intervention

The data supporting mask use has largely been epidemiologic. Many respiratory viral illnesses almost disappeared during the time when masking was most intensive. When used at a very large scale, they appear to work. But it's impossible to have high quality data that would require a randomized controlled trial.
