Women of Color in Mountaineering
In two thousand six, sophia danand bur became the first black woman to summit, everist. She has also been very outspoken about her experience climbing as a black woman. There are a lack of roll models for people of color in the climbing community. Climbing is an indicator of lagging social economic issues in our country. People who climb big mountains are all the same, well educated, work at an engineering company and come from upper middle class families. It's a selfish hobby that i love. Some people don't have the privilege of not being productive.
