Saudi Arabia's Decision to Cut Off Ties With the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia

I wonder those of you who want the West to cut off ties can tell me how do we cut off ties and did it work anywhere else? I mean the United States cut off ties with Cuba for God knows how many years, half a century and Cuba remained. It is reasonable to have very targeted sanctions against individuals who committed crimes but it is not reasonable to just isolate a whole country.
