What Is Your North Star?
In retrospect, I actually wish I did a better job of defining my North Star from the beginning. And one of the reasons was that when I started my career as an engineer, the concept of separate IC and managerial tracks wasn't as well defined as it is today. Every company has a track for individual contributors and a track for managers. Back then, it didn't really exist. You really had to become a manager in order to get promoted. So in retrospect, I was lucky because it is what I want to do, but I didn't go through the right process of defining my north star.
