The Rise of Universal Gods

Many gods began as the deities of a particular place. They tended to be interested in the people who live there. And if somebody else moved in and began worshiping there, then they became the gods of that person. The major kind of God in the ancient world were the gods of people. We tend to think of Sumerian gods or Assyrian gods which are the gods of an ethnic group.
