Pillars of Pentagon by Timothy Truman
As a kid, they brought me to tears. They are geared towards kids and they are definitely written by an older person who might not have had a lot of young reader experience because they all have a moral of the story baked in. There's often a pet involved and it's always like a kid. And then you have Jim Holloway doing a lot of the interiors and he was like classic D&D artists of the period. Timothy Truman does return to Brookmere, the fourth book, which I also read that one. That one's actually really good.
