Isis and the Sun, Moon and Stars

John and the spirit are borrowing cultural touchstones that would have been extremely familiar Isis of course spread from Egypt, but there was a lot of syncretism around the Mediterranean in the first and second century. And her cult was huge in Rome. The Romans who liked to borrow everybody's gods right they stole the Greek gods they also stole Turkey's gods. They also stole Egyptian gods. So this figure was known all over the Mediterranean you can find little temples to Isis and unexpected areas all over.
