Behind The Knife: The Surgery Podcast

CHAPTER

The Role of a Diverting Ostomy in the Treatment of C-Diff

There probably is a place for it, but I'm not sure it would be a major part of the treatment for full-manant C-diff with the current level of evidence. The challenge often lies in deciding when to intervene with surgery. If it's worsening and progressing to septic shock, then they likely need an operation before it gets too late in that course. But starting pressers should often be an indicator to get to the OR before they progress into multi-organ failure and surgery becomes more futile.
