The Meta Question - Do You Need to Go There?

When you are presenting to an audience and you get a question that feels like it's out of left field, the first thing ou want to figure out is, do you need to go there? Are you going to respond to it? Depends on your time constraints, right? If you have a lot of time and patience on the part of the people whom you're talking with, then you can get away with going down some of these tangents.
