The Importance of Natural Selection in Evolution

Evolution is based on two things: genetic variation and natural selection. If you have a mutation that improves your fitness, okay, let's say that I get a mutation that makes me incredibly strong and brilliant... But if I don't pass it on to my offspring, there's no natural selection. Because natural selection happens over time, time being many generations. And this is what I want to be focusing quite a bit on.
