The Relationship Between Algeria and Russia
Russia has been a long time partner of Algeria. Russia provides about, well, about 70% of the defense purchase bill goes to Russian weapons. The Russians have pride, as the USSR did, to get bases in Algeria and notably the naval base of Mersel Kibir Niawahran. And so in many ways, Algeria is non-alignment. Non-alignment might have gone out of the political international factor 20, 30 years ago. But the Algerian army is stick to its theory and its belief in non- alignment.
