What Is Adipose Tissue?

Ursula White from the Pennington Biomedical Research Centre studies human adipose tissue, which is body fat to you and me. The characteristic for which it's most known is being an energy storage depot. But in addition, it's secreting different factors, different amounts of these factors. Some molecules or hormones are released from fat tissue that are not released from anywhere else in the body. One of these is extremely important in appetite, which we know has a huge factor when we talk about changes in body weight. Something that's secreted from the fat tissue can also be very influential in regulating the body.
