The first probing attacks into the city began on November 5th. A key part of the Nationalist attack plan was to move through the Cacetic Campo, the old royal hunting grounds which made a roughly 5 kilometer sized triangle. The number of people killed during this time are difficult to determine. All the while, the Nationalists advance continued with militia units falling back from the outskirts of Madrid.
