The rich were so rich, Captain Samuel Vimes reasoned, because they managed to spend less money. A really good pair of leather boots cost $50 but an affordable pair of boots that leaked like hell cost about $10. The poor man who could afford only cheap boots would have spent $100 on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
