The Popularity of Compatibilism
A lot of English language philosophers have adopted models of choice and action that make undetermined choices look very hard to understand as genuine choices. So the less caused or the less determined our actions are then on that model the less intelligible they are as genuine actions. Compatibilism is a bit odd really and I find it hard to get my head around. You need a very strong argument to say that you can be both free and completely determined by prior events.
