The Impossibility of the Secular Subject
The religious subject becomes the secular subject through thinking through the impossibility of becoming his ideal. In its most extreme manifestation, this might be something like someone attempting to become the subject of world communism or the subject of global utopia. So you don't get away from having some ideal, the new secular subject has a new ideal for itself. We're in the indeterminate fuzzy space, and the identity have seen has not yet emerged.
