Do You Need Permission to Write a Paper?

You don't need to ask for permission to write a paper. You just write it and send it out there and see if people will read it. These days, journal review is sort of a secondary process. People read papers well before they're ever reviewed by journals. So these days, most of the actual science happens on what we call preprints where people post their papers before they go to the journals.
