The Importance of Taxation
I'm very sympathetic to the anarchist position that it should all be voluntary. But as an economist, I have to point out that if you look through history, never has a society existed that did not evolve a government of some sort. That tells me as an economist that the government is bringing some value to the table. And when we start going around saying there should be no government at all, all we do is turn off people who might otherwise listen to reasoned argument about smaller government.
