The Power of the Dream World
I support this motion because I believe that sacred monarchy infantilizes us as if Gandalf and Frodo were characters in our national life, along with Aragon or Charles the King. Britain feels to me necrotic and undynamic. Our fancied exceptionalism feels less exceptional these days. As almost everyone seems to agree, we are in decline. Far from being truer patriots than we Republicans, monarchists seem to have so little faith in our country and the people in it. They dare not look beyond one family for a figurehead to embody us. And do they embody us? If so, why not send their children to state schools? Why not have their children in NHS
