The Delta Between FDI From China and the African People's Expectations and Incentives

CNN's John Defterios and Margaret Hoover are co-authors of a new paper on Chinese investment in Africa. They look at the incentive structure for African political leaders who seek FDI from China as a political victory. But they find that by the time these projects become operational, local people have unmet expectations. And so what does this mean for China to the extent that the Chinese government is looking after its own citizens?
