The Metaphor of the Wave
Elizabeth J. Friedman, a University of San Francisco professor, studied feminist activism in Latin America. She says the wave metaphor is used to show when there have been upsurges in women's organizing over time. But she argues that it reduces who is a feminist and what is seen as feminism to a particular issue at a particular time.
