The Story of John the Baptist
Before the coming of God or his king in Messiah, there was going to come a messenger who would prepare the way. John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. He's crazy. He's wearing animal skins and belts and eating bugs and honey,. And what's he doing out here? He has this message that all Israel needs to repent and come get dunked underwater. What else happened there at the Jordan River in the wilderness? Say about 1200 years or so before John the Baptist.
