Bert Crunch traveled to Sulfur Springs in the dead of winter. He met Yukon Pete, a leathery old man bundled head to toe in warm weather gear. The two sat at opposite ends of a wooden table cut from a single sheet of lumber set atop a bare-skinned rug in the front of a roaring fireplace. With his frost-bitten hand he offered Bert a steaming mug of hot chocolate and then took a long, slow sip of his own before placing it down in front of him.
