The Ice Well of Gadsby's Tavern

Gadsby's Tavern was a favored haunt of such luminaries as George and Martha Washington and Thomas Jefferson who held his inaugural banquet there in March of that very year. It once held over 60 tons of ice that would be cut from the Potomac River each year and used for chilling drinks and making ice cream.
