The book is an ethnographic attempt to capture the mid-nineties in algeria and france. During this time, there was a civil war in algeror what you might call aCivil War in algera, was in full swing. There were both a very strong kinds of movements around identity that were occurring. And it also turned people's attention to algerian parents or grandparents who would spend like a good chunk of their youth trying to be french. So part of what i was trying to do in that book, the algiera and france, is think about the way in which something events curring elsewhere play out in your space.
