Sanctions in the Global Order of Neoliberalism, Right?
The deployment of sanctions as a weapon to re-impose imperialist logic on peripheral states has really accelerated over the past few decades. This is, I think, in large measure related to the increasing financialization of the world economy and the strategy of the U.S., particularly from the 1970s onwards. The United States can now enhance its capacity to impose sanctions on states that defy their property structures.
