Coming from a country like the netherlands and growing up in the seventies, eighties, that was kene of the last peri of a pretty much very paternalistic period of west european politics. And here thereis this fundamental anti elite sentiment, but also a really fundamental popular sentiment which is based around the mith of wethe. There's his idea that the people are good and the elite are problematic. At the same time, you see, this popularism exists also at the mans level. But i think more importantly, it exists in culture. Like my example to my students always is tis movi, sweet home alabama with res widter spoon.
