Dopamine and Serotonin Are Related to Anxiety Disorders

The serotonin receptor, the 5-HT1A receptor, is thought to play an important role in anxiety disorders. Knocking out this receptor resulted in anxiety like behaviors in mice. Too much serotonin produced in the amygdala may also result in social phobias. Dysfunctions in dopamine and serotonin levels have been linked to anxiety disorder.
