The Effects of Exercise on Insulin Stimulated Glucose Uptake

After the four days bed rest, we have about a 20% reduction in whole body glucose disposal during the clam compared to before bed rest. And if we maintain those individuals in bed, in energy balance, for 56 days, there's no change in that magnitude of suppression of insulin stimulated glucose uptake. What does change is fuel oxidation. So what you see after 56 days is that the insulin mediated suppression of fat oxidation that you would normally see in a clam is blunted. You don't see that at four days. This is a lack of contraction that's driving this rapid decline in in glucose disposal and it doesn't change.
