Wittgenstein's argument which is admittedly very complex and gnomic and opaque basically centers on the fact that a word like pain means what it does for me because of the way the community I'm part of has tacitly agreed to use pain end quote. Wittgenstein says also he talks about like imagine that you have a sensation that there's no word for and then you decide to make a note in your personal journal every time you have that sensation but then he basically says by the time you got to the third day that you think you have the sensation you start to write it down how would you know it was really that sensation?
