Most people aren't that numerate, so they aren't additionally intimidated by calculators and mathematical and computer interfaces anymore than they're already intimidated by mathematicians. So when you get a conversational computer that can talk back to them, they will immediately be intimidated and apply agency to it at a human level. I don't know if an explanation of how it's doing what it's doing isn't necessarily needed. It could arise as a matter of just emergence from a complex system in precisely the same way that I look in theory for kangaroos.
