The Evolution of Rodents in Australia
In Australia we've got I think 70 or so different rodent species and they live in every single environment. The interesting thing is that a lot of these species aren't necessarily closely related to other species in those environments if that makes sense. We were looking at that and being like when did these things move into deserts did they do it multiple times? Did they start in the deserts and move into the rainforest and the woodlands and the grasslands was it the other way around?" "Rats evolve really quickly they speciate they turn into different species very quickly," he says."They're a good system to look at the processes of evolution and work out how they take place."
