The midwives gave themselves plausible deniability by putting the word out among the Hebrew women when it comes time to give birth. This is clearly a case where these midwives are obeying God rather than man. And I think one theme that develops across the pages of scripture is you have women who instead of being deceived by the serpent, deceived the serpent. We're going to see this over and over again.
