The Frontier Myth

The Frontier myth is rooted in the late 19th century. It uses an idea of geographical determinism, namely the settling of America from the east to the west mostly by Europeans. Turner calls it the thin line between civilization and savagery. And he's very worried at the end of the 19th century about what will happen when we no longer have the frontier experience.
