I worked at the ACLU for a while. I worked on the Hill for Keith Ellison. Capitol Hill felt a little constricting and the advocacy world had its own problems. And so I just decided that what I wanted to do was do my own thing, take on projects that I really cared about and believe in. The consulting life is not always easy. You've got to be out there looking for clients. There's days I wish I could think less about QuickBooks and stuff like that but that's kind of the nature of the beast.
